Garden Design - St Hilary contemporary medieval and renaissance garden

In 2008 I was invited to submit a design for a garden located within the walls of a medieval courtyard and additional renaissance terrace. The garden enjoys a relatively open aspect with country views transected by a river to the west.

The clients are a busy professional couple, who have an interest in medieval history, historical building renovation and are knowledgeable about plants. They particularly enjoy plants with scent and colour. The garden has to provide scent and colour in the planting, an area of lawn, and relative ease of maintenance in the short term. The design needs to make provision for the longer term when the clients will have increased free time available to develop and maintain more complex planting schemes.

This is not a short term project it is anticipated that it will be ongoing for several years.
