Terrace
A terrace is a practical design feature which provides a level, horizontal plane providing an ideal area for living in and an opportunity to invest in an 'outdoor room'. A terrace near the house provides a transition between house and garden and at the very least should be of a size to comfortably accommodate a table and chairs. The terrace can also be located away from this area, as in the St Hilary Garden.
Terracing requires significant financial investment and it is prudent to plan this well at the outset. When designing the terrace many factors need to be taken into consideration including topography, orientation, usage, drainage and any possible planning consent. The final surface of the terrace can be of any material from paving, to deflect the surface water, to gravel, a loose hard substance to grass providing an absorbent surface.
At Design Outside we take all these factors into consideration and the individual requirements of you, the client, when completing your garden design.
