Control Methods Overview
The mole is excluded from the Wildlife Act and classified as vermin. It can therefore be destroyed, COPR (1986). There are a number of control methods available including non chemical control methods and chemical control methods.
How to get rid of Moles; Talpa europea (L.) Family Talpidae
The mole is a subterranean mammal found in all parts of the UK except Ireland. They are most commonly found in light well drained stone free soils.
The mole has shovel type feet to create an underground system 5 - 20cm below the soil surface and covering up to 0.25h in extent. The tunnel contents are excavated into mole hills, thus resulting in root disturbance to grassland and crops and can cause damage to machinery. They are solitary mammals feeding predominantly on earthworms and some harmful insects. They live for about four years.
