Gardening Hints and Tips

August

General

Keep weeding.

Keep deadheading annuals and perennials.

Keep watering if necessary.

Keep tying in the climbers.

Enjoy your holiday.

Observe for Vine Weevil activity, as they are laying their eggs. Take action.

Planting and Pruning

Commence Wisteria pruning.

August pruning encourages flowers for next year. Cut back the new, whip like growth so that each is left with five to seven sets of leaves. Leave them to mature. In winter, see January; cut back the same stems so that just two or three buds remain on a stubby spur.

Keep hedges neat.

Cut back herbs that are starting to flower, this encourages bushy growth.

Lawn

Keep mowing the lawn.
