Check the weather reports for snow.

Go out and shake the snow off evergreen hedges and topiary the weight may cause damage to your plants.

Repair and replace fences and trellis while plants are dormant.

Check ties and supports for climbers.

Plant late flowering daffodils, tulips and alliums. Do not plant in water logged or frozen soil.

Firm in any plants loosened by wind or frost, particularly newly planted ones.

Prune repeat flowering roses. Shorten side shoots that flowered this year to two or three buds.

Thin out overcrowded branches on apple and pear trees. Remove all dead and diseased branches. Clear any fallen debris from around the tree.

Take the opportunity to enjoy a book.
