June

General

Continue weeding, by hand, and remove from site.

Clean paths and patios if necessary use a pressure hose.

Continue to tie in new shoots of climbers whilst pliable.

Check that there is adequate support for tall perennials.


Observe for signs of Rose rust and treat, do not compost diseased material.

Observe patio pots for Vine weevil infestation and treat.


Keep watering - do in the cool of the day to reduce water loss.


Planting and Pruning

Plant autumn flowering bulbs and corms.


Prune spring flowering clematis to a neater form as required.

Trim hedges of privet, leylandii and Lonicera nitida every month during the summer.

Clip buxus - box topiary and standard bay.

Deadhead spent flowers from annuals and perennials to encourage the production of new flowers.

Deadhead shrub roses unless they bear hips.

Remove flowered shoots of climbing roses


Lawn

Lawn maintenance continues;

Rake grass to remove moss and thatch.

Apply nitrogen rich feed if lawns are looking pale and sparse.
