Stake, secure, and/or tie in plants as required protecting from wind damage.
Remove rose leaves affected by blackspot or rose rust and dispose of any on the ground. Do not compost.
Plant spring bulbs.
Plant hardy spring bedding, such as forget-me-nots, polyanthus, ornamental kale, sweet Williams.
Plant hardy perennials, climbers, shrubs and trees and order bare rooted shrubs, trees or roses, this is best time to order for long runs of hedging.
Lift, divide and plant clumps of congested perennials and herbs such as mint, lemon balm chives.
Cut the herbs marjoram and oregano to just above ground level.
Lawn maintenance;
Keep mowing the lawn.
Remove dead leaves from the lawn by raking. Compost then separately and in about 18 months you should have leaf mould to use.
Disperse worm casts when dry use a stiff broom or besom.
Apply lawn sand to kill moss follow manufacturers instruction.
Improve drainage by aerating the lawn with a hollow-tine or fork, finish by brushing in grit or sharp sand ensure both are of horticultural quality.
Now is the time to rake over and reseed bare patches or sow a new lawn net to protect from birds.
This is also a good time to lay turf as long as it is not very dry or too cold.
