Mediterranean Garden

The Mediterranean garden has become increasingly popular as people travel to warmer climes for their holidays. People enjoy the experiences of being abroad and want to recreate them in their homes and gardens; a key area is to extend the pleasurable experience of dining outside, the warm Mediterranean summer evenings often being enjoyed during a holiday. The flora and fauna of the Mediterranean region enjoys climate and soil conditions once difficult to guarantee in Britain but our changing climate is now making this possible in certain regions of the UK.

A significant number of our popular herbs originate from Mediterranean countries; they need a sunny spot and good drainage and therefore lend themselves perfectly to a Mediterranean garden. This is an excellent way of integrating herbs into the garden for kitchen use. Some clients prefer to have a specific area as a designated herb garden, but they are equally at home in the borders, some having aromatic flowers such as the many beautiful lavenders but most providing the additional benefit of aromatic foliage that can be picked and crushed as you pass by, such as the well known Rosmarinus officinalis – Rosemary also providing beautiful blue flowers during the late winter months and a useful aromatic stem for Mediterranean roast potatoes.

A Mediterranean garden is a fantastic addition to any property and provides endless opportunities to individuals and families. They provide a low maintenance garden, a resource for clients with culinary interests, and interests in alternative health, and a fun learning space to children. A Mediterranean garden with herbs can fit in to the smallest of spaces and is perfect for a balcony garden with regular sunshine.
